This is one of our favourites from the Scandinavian Wood series – The Birch Tree.

“Let’s start again. Birch trees are the first to leaf in spring so they have come to symbolise new beginnings – the wood of choice for purifying brooms (as you do!), healing remedies and babies’ cradles, as well as good-luck charms. Glimpse their silver trunks to see how the old Norwegian word Bjork, bright and shiny, gave this tree its name.”
